The Challenge

Tata Steel is one of the largest global steel producers with operations in more than 35 countries.

With more than 20,000 employees in Europe alone, it needed a cost-effective solution to reach and engage with learners around the world – wherever, whenever. Specifically, Tata Steel wanted to help the ongoing development of its leaders.

The Solution

The Mind Tools toolkit lets learners build on their essential management, leadership and personal effectiveness skills. Employees can access articles, videos, audio interviews and more – all on-demand.

Mind Tools offers flexibility for Tata Steel’s L&D team, too, which can incorporate its learning offering and training services around the toolkit, providing a seamless experience for employees.

To make life even easier for people, Tata Steel chose a Single Sign-On (SSO) subscription. That way, learners go straight – and securely – to the content they’re looking for without the need to log in.

But Tata Steel didn’t just want a learning solution, it wanted a partner. The Mind Tools Client Experience Team works with its L&D team to:

  • Run campaigns that push relevant content to learners at the right time
  • Create marketing collateral to signpost resources and events
  • Offer ongoing planning, engagement tips, and technical support

I really like Mind Tools because it's so flexible. We've used it for all sorts of different campaigns. We use it as a learning resource independently, and then we integrate different materials into operational training programs. They’ve always got fresh ideas to help promote our campaigns.

The Results

Since launch in 2014, Tata Steel has seen excellent engagement with the Mind Tools toolkit.
  • Employees viewed resources more than 56,287 times in the last three years
  • More than 50% of users regularly view five or more resources
  • Popular topics include career skills, communication, and team management

In that time, the toolkit has evolved to meet changes in technology and learners’ needs. Employees can interact with bite-sized content – designed for any device – on-the-go and around busy lifestyles. Today, ‘consumer learners’ can access resources at their time of need.

As Louise Burge says, "Single sign-on makes it really mobile and really accessible. It's gotten so much easier for people to get into as technology from your side and our side has evolved.”

By growing together, Tata Steel and Mind Tools have formed a strong partnership to offer ongoing learning for employees.
